Sara Evans has only had the one goal in her life that she has always had that she would like to write and perform in country music. Evans stated to John Meroney, of American Enterprise: "God placed me here in order to be a singer." "It is what I am passionate about doing more than any other thing and I'm determined to be successful." Evans set out to become a household name through introducing classic country tunes that became famous thanks to Patsy Cline. Hank Snow. Tammy Wynette. George Jones. Also Patty Loveless. These musicians Evans considers to be her most influential source of inspiration. The late 1990s were at a time when the majority of aspiring country music stars turned to new popular radio tunes Evans was able to make her mark by performing country songs that drew inspiration from the past, exemplified by her debut album from 1997, True Lies. True Lies was not a big hit, despite being well received by critics and winning an 1998 Academy of Country Music nomination for the top female vocalist. Evans was persuaded to change her repertoire of songs for No Place That Far in 1999 by producers. It gave her the public recognition she'd wanted for a long time.
